Dr. Bob Griffith
AAFP Certified Cat Friendly Professional

Co-Owner and Veterinarian

Hello, my name is Bob Griffith, and I'm one of the co-owners and veterinarians of Pet Care Center. After graduating from college, I went to Washington State University in 1993 and spent a year working there in Pullman. After that, I decided I wanted to get my master's. I attended Eastern Washington University, where I did some field work in Northeast Washington, studying small animal populations and birds. I graduated from the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002.

What attracted you to veterinary medicine?

I think veterinary medicine appealed to me because you get to work with people and you also get to work with animals. The relationship between them is very important to our health and the environment. It just seems like it would be a rewarding career. Honestly, interacting with people—typically, I'm a shy person, but when I come here, I feel like I can come out of my shell. Interacting with people is fun, especially interacting with them and their relationships with their pets. Hopefully, sometimes being able to help them out. There are sad times, too, but it's the people and the people I work with.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

I really enjoy photography, being outdoors, and hiking. Birdwatching is a big thing for me. I enjoy birdwatching and getting outside as much as I can.

Can you tell us more about your professional journey?

I worked as an assistant in high school in Burien, where I was from, for a guy who was my mentor when I became a veterinarian. After I graduated from vet school, I worked in Alaska for four years at this animal practice and then moved back to Washington in 2006. I worked for a place down in Edgewood, a place in Burien, and then my wife, Dr. Su-Chin Dean-Griffith, and I bought Pet Care Center in 2009.

What does being a feline-friendly practitioner mean to you?

I am a certified feline-friendly practitioner. I received the certifications in 2023. It's important to be feline-friendly because I think one of the most stressful things for cats and their owners is coming to the clinic, getting in the car, being in the carrier, and just trying to make sure in this small environment, we can try to make it as comfortable for them as possible, make it a good experience. They want to return because their health is very important, and it can be hard or difficult. You hear it, how stressful it is for people who bring their cats in. I want to make that as easy as possible!
